Why is this landfill in the splendid valley of the Gracciata River
called Belladanza (Beautiful Dance)? Because for decades, in a house
that still exists on the edge of the landfill, people of the area,
from Citta di Castello to Umbertide, came to dance and to enjoy themselves.
For generations Belladanza was a symbol of joy and happiness. Then
came the excavation of a quarry, and with the quarry the nightmare
began, as later it became the landfill Belladanza. In order to understand
the horror of Belladanza it is necessary to be aware of its joyous
history and to experience the beauty that surrounds it, which are
in poignant contrast to the hideousness of the landfill. |
