BELLADANZA AS "COLANDER"
(01.04.1990)
The video shows the inauguration of Belladanza, ready to be filled
with 1.8 million square meters of waste material.
Plainly visible on the vertical walls are plastic tarpaulins that
are intended to contain the liquid exuded from the toxic waste and
to keep it from percolating toward the water table. The tarpaulin,
however, has been placed only on areas that are vertical. None of
the horizontal part - that is, the base – is protected by
the plastic, leaving for posterity only a layer of permeable clay
to protect the water table from contamination.
DANGER OF LANDSLIDE
(29.02.1992)
This video shows the area where the Stazione di Trasferenza was built
and where the much extolled Centro Integrato dei Rifiuti is supposed
to be sited. It documents the fact that not only is the entire zone
geologically unstable but is slowly collapsing.
THE DISASTER OF 05/03/1992,
WHICH REMAINS UNPUNISHED
The video shows the Gracciano River completely covered by industrial
toxic wastes – easily recognizable by their color – which
flow after a few hundred meters directly into the Tiber. The cause
of this immense environmental disaster still remains unknown, and
no one has yet been punished for it. At the moment we can identify
only one responsible party: “The Monster of Belladanza.”
THE TOXIC INDUSTRIAL
MUD (07.03.1992)
This video shows the industrial toxic wastes that have been illegally
disposed of in Belladanza. It is the same kind of muddy substance
that totally polluted the Gracciano River and then flowed into the
Tiber. This leads us to believe that the base of the dump, which is
totally composed of clay, is completely permeable and that the situation
constitutes a veritable “Ecological Bomb” that could explode
at any time, contaminating the ground water table as well as our Tiber
River and poisoning the thousands of people who live in the proximity
of the landfill.
THE INDIFFERENCE OF
EX-MAYOR ADOLFO ORSINI (12.03.1992)
A week after the environmental disaster at the Belladanza landfill,
there has been no change in the situation. The toxic industrial mud
has been slowly dissolving and running into the Tiber via the Gracciano
River without anyone becoming the least bit concerned about the slowly
worsening disaster. Not even Adolfo Orsini, who then held the office
of Mayor, took an interest in providing a timely resolution to the
disastrous Tenvironmental situation at Belladanza. It must be remembered
that Ex-Mayor Orsini (now President of Arusia) was determined at all
costs to establish Belladanza as a waste disposal facility and that
he convinced the citizens of the absolute security of the system.
MAKING
MONEY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN HEALTH (07.04.1993)
This video shows that the landfill management does not cover the waste
with the 15 centimeters of dirt that is required in order to prevent
nasty odors and the scattering of trash by the wind throughout the
valley. By not putting down the obligatory daily layer of dirt, Sogepu
Srl has saved a great deal of money and – above all –
has thereby left room for a 10% increase in the total amount of trash
that the landfill will hold, thus increasing its revenues to the detriment
of the health and quality of life of the citizens.
ANOTHER UNPUNISHED
DISASTER (03.01.1995)
Yet again the Monster of Belladanza pollutes the Gracciano and Tiber
Rivers.
Another environmental disaster remains unpunished.
The images speak for themselves….
